4-Week Putting Practice Plan

Focus: Face Angle, Start Direction, and Speed Control (Inside 15ft and Lag Putting)

Schedule: 1-2 days per week

Measurements: Start and end with SAM PuttLab sessions to track progress.

What Will You Learn?

  • Determine which part of your stroke needs improvement using Sam Puttlab.
  • Improve face control and lag putting doing the various training drills.

Course Content

WEEK 1- FOUNDATION
Day 1: Face Angle and Start Direction SAM PuttLab Analysis: Evaluate face angle and start direction metrics. Gate Drill (10 minutes): Set up two tees slightly wider than your putter head, positioned 4ft from a target. Hit putts through the gate to ensure a square face at impact. String-Line Drill/Puttview/Wellputt (10 minutes): Use a chalk line/string/Puttview/Wellputt to visualize a straight putt (6ft distance). Focus on face alignment at setup and starting the ball on the line. Short Putts (10 minutes): Practice 6ft putts with a focus on matching face angle and intended start direction.

  • Sam Puttlab Test
  • Skill Building-Face Training
  • Speed Control (Lag Putting)

Week 2- Face Angle Consistency and Speed Refinement
Building on week 1-Improve face angle consistency SAM PuttLab Review: Focus on key face angle metrics from Week 1. Mirror Drill (10 minutes): Use a putting mirror to check face alignment at setup and impact. Chalk Line and Tees (10 minutes): Add gates at 4ft and 8ft on a straight line. Hit 6-8ft putts, ensuring the ball rolls through both gates. Random Short Putts (10 minutes): Hit 10 putts from random spots inside 15ft, focusing on correct start direction. Day 2: Lag Putting Challenges Variable Distance Drill (15 minutes): Putt to three targets at 30ft, 35ft, and 42ft in random order. Focus on stroke length adjustments for each distance. Speed Zone Drill (10 minutes): Place zones (e.g., towels or circles) around the hole at 3ft increments. Focus on stopping the ball in the closest zone. One-Putt Finish (10 minutes): Set up 40-42ft lag putts with a 3ft circle target. If the first putt is outside the circle, make the next one to complete the drill.

Week 3: Advanced Start Direction and Speed Challenges
Day 1: Face and Start Direction SAM PuttLab Check-In: Analyze changes since Week 1. Gate Drill with Varying Slopes (10 minutes): Set up gates on flat and breaking putts (inside 10ft). Focus on consistent start direction. PuttView Visualization (10 minutes): Use PuttView to map break and test your start direction on 8-12ft putts. Competitive Short Putts (10 minutes): Create a match-play scenario to make 10 putts in a row from 4ft and 8ft. Day 2: Lag Putting Under Pressure Timed Lag Drill (15 minutes): In 10 minutes, hit as many lag putts as possible to a target zone at 40ft. Track how many stop within a 3ft circle. Distance Control Game (10 minutes): Hit putts to zones at 30ft, 35ft, and 40ft. Assign points for stopping within 1ft, 2ft, or 3ft of the target. Challenging Finish (10 minutes): Hit putts from 42ft with the goal of finishing within 2ft of the hole. Repeat until 5 consecutive putts are successful.

Week 4: Test and Fine-Tune
Day 1: SAM PuttLab Final Assessment Conduct a final SAM PuttLab session to measure improvement in face angle, start direction, and speed control. Day 2: Reinforce Strengths and Address Weaknesses Focus 20 minutes on the weakest area identified from the SAM PuttLab session. Complete favorite drills from the program. Finish with a confidence-building game: Hit 10 putts inside 15ft and 5 lag putts at 40ft. Track results for a final confidence boost. Notes: Use ZenGreen, PuttView, or WellPutt tools when possible for visual feedback. Track improvement metrics (e.g., putts holed, dispersion patterns) to compare against SAM PuttLab data.
